What is a VOIP Phone System?

VoIP is short for Voice over Internet Protocol. Voice over Internet Protocol is a category of hardware and software that enables people to use the internet for telephone calls by sending voice data in packets using IP rather than by traditional circuit transmissions of the PSTN.

Using the internet opens a wide range of options to end-users. These features may include voicemail accessible from anywhere, extended forwarding capabilities, transcribing voice-to-text options plus a bunch of other amazing features that can help making doing business easier and much more efficient.

Is Your Company Ready for Kari’s Law?

Kari’s Law applies to multi-line telephone systems for office buildings, campuses and hotels.  Kari’s Law requires that all multi-line telephone systems in the United States enables users to dial 9-1-1 directly, without having to dial a prefix to reach an outside line; and to provide notification when a 9-1-1 call is made to either a front desk, security office or 9-1-1 Center.

Kari’s Law amends the original Telecommunications Act of 1934 as well as its overhaul in 1996.  The bill has transformed emergency communications by mandating that public safety be built into every telephone system.  Kari’s Law makes it so that every person can easily call for help and be quickly located by emergency services.

In addition to facing potentially devastating civil liabilities should a tragedy occur, businesses that fail to comply with the law, risk fines and may be subject to additional penalties for each day they remain non-compliant. With Kari’s Law now included within the amended Communications Act, the FCC now has the power to enforce the rules, assign judgments, and collect penalties.
